Johnson & Johnson Forced into Court Repeatedly
Products from the gigantic company Johnson & Johnson span all kinds of items, from talcum powder and shampoos to Benadryl and Tylenol. J & J also makes a number of items used in surgery. Most Americans have used a variety of their merchandise, making the company a basic component of American households. Unfortunately, many people are unaware of an alarming fact regarding this multi-billion dollar company: they and their subsidiary companies have been challenged in courtrooms across the country in hundreds of thousands of lawsuits. At the root of these suits are concerns about product safety.
One of the most highly publicized legal battles relates to Johnson & Johnson’s recommendation that women use baby powders, including Shower to Shower, as a feminine hygiene product. The problem is that products that contain talc have been linked to ovarian cancer for decades. While J & J defends its powders, a recent jury awarded nearly $4.7 billion to 22 women who suffered from cancers. Another 9,000 lawsuits have been filed with similar claims.
This product has been used to repair organ prolapse and hernias since the 1950s. A number of lawsuits have tied the mesh to numerous health issues, including:
- Perforation of organs;
- Erosion into other tissue.
These complications have required patients to seek additional surgical interventions to take the mesh out and perform necessary repairs. A 2018 award of $35 million was made to one Indiana woman; a 2017 award of over $57 million went to another Philadelphia woman. These were just two of many, many jury awards since 2013.
Patients seeking hip replacements have experienced serious complications and resulting legal action. Among the most serious problems are the following:
- Metallosis, or poisoning related to metals used in the implant;
- Fractured bones;
- Severe blood clots;
- Dislocated joints.
This drug is commonly prescribed to treat children diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). It has been associated with horrible side effects that cause incredible harm:
- Suicidal thoughts;
- Stomach and digestive issues.
This anticoagulant has been named in over 20,000 suits related to extreme bleeding that does not respond to antidotes. Patients using the drug have lost the ability to clot, resulting in serious injury and death in thousands of cases.
Failure to Protect Consumers

Elton, we believe that Johnson & Johnson has the money and research capacity to investigate the health consequences of its products prior to releasing them into the market. In far too many situations, they have neglected to provide the due diligence they owe to the American consumer.
